There are common causes of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), also known as acid reflux, all of which can be attributed to four primary categories: dietary factors, lifestyle factors, other medical conditions, and medications. Relief and treatment can be attained by addressing any one of these causes or a combination of them.

Some common and avoidable causes of GERD / acid reflux
Dietary Factors:
Fatty or fried foods
Spicy foods
Dark chocolate
Caffeinated and carbonated beverages
Lifestyle Factors:
Smoking
Sedentary lifestyle
Eating large meals or lying down right after eating
Wearing tight clothing
Medications:
Antidepressants
Asthma medications
Painkillers
Blood pressure medications
Reflexology provides a natural and in some cases, instant relief from GERD. Though the scientific literature is, so far, a little thin in proving its effectiveness, success stories are common even from first hand experience; and works by treating not only the reflexes of the oesophagus and other parts of the digestive system represented in the foot; but other physical causes as well as stress.
Reflexology treatment may reduce your need for medications such as antacids, proton pump inhibitors or histamine receptor antagonists, all of which are all too common in today’s world. You will also alleviate other symptoms in the process.
Blog health tip:
Don't eat a meal, large or small, before going to bed.
Ultimately it's recommended to leave a three to four hour gap before hitting the sack, but this will depend on the type of meal you are having. Easily digested food, lower in oil and fats, will generally require less time to digest.
A cheat or good starting point could be to start with say a 90 minute gap before hitting the sack - but at least combine that with a "light" meal or snack, and do not cheat any further!
